Benefits of Roller Shutters

If you're looking for a way to increase your home's security, you might consider installing roller shutters across the windows. Besides security, these shutters offer many additional benefits. Read on to discover how they can help.

Security

Security is the main reason that many people install roller shutters. These window coverings consist of tough steel or aluminium slats that connect to form a continuous sheet. The shutters fit within a metal border that is fixed to the window frame. Thus, they secure the window tightly. Closed roller shutters send a message to any trespasser that you take security seriously and that your house will resist a break-in. This deterrence can be all that is needed for the intruder to try another place with bare windows.

Colour Options

Roller shutters can be powder coated in various colours, such as beige, green, blue or grey. You can harmonise them with your home. For example, on a cream exterior wall, you could install navy blue roller shutters. Typically, you'll want to match the shutters to the roofing, window trim, gutters or other elements.

You may be able to choose custom colours for the shutters, selecting one colour for the border and a contrasting colour for the slats. For example, a house might have a creamy beige wall with dark green-blue window trim. You could install roller shutters with a blue-green border and cream slats. Thus, the window frame and shutter border will perfectly match, and the slats will be a lighter tone of the external wall hue. You can put a lot of thought into the different colours to create an attractive facade.

Insulation

Roller shutters also provide insulation as the slats can be filled with foam. On a hot day, you can close the shutters as the sun strikes the window and open them after the sun angle shifts. Your house will be cooler and more comfortable in summer, and you'll save on air-conditioning costs. If you install automated versions, you can conveniently operate them with a remote control device. The insulated slats can also block noise, so they can dampen traffic commotion on a highway. You can close the shutters at night to get good sleep and not be woken up by the roar of peak hour.

Light Control

These shutters can also darken rooms entirely. Unlike many curtains and blinds, they don't let light rays shine around the sides of the coverings. Roller shutters fit securely into the frame without any gaps.
